bookworm.

Reading is good for the soul. Here are a few of my favorite novels. Read them and weep.

|| The Secret Life of Bees: Sue Monk Kidd ||
This is a great book about female empowerment. It is beautifully written and there is so much going on that you never get bored.

|| Along for the Ride: Sarah Dessen ||
This book isn't very intellectual, but if you're looking for a good beach read, this is a good choice. It's adorable and makes me happy.

|| Peace Like a River: Leif Enger ||
This book was written by Leif Enger who used to be a script writer for broadcasters, so he definitely knows how to keep people's interest. It deals with profound concepts in a very entertaining way.

|| 1984: George Orwell ||
Such a classic. If you asked, I'd say this is my number one favorite book.

|| To Kill a Mockingbird: Harper Lee ||
Another classic, but a lot easier read than 1984. This book deals with heavy concepts such as racism and sexism but from the point of view of a child. It is very eye opening and wonderful.

|| Anthem: Ayn Rand ||
Everyone needs to read a book by Ayn Rand once in their life, she's brilliant. I really enjoyed this (short) book. It made me look at life in a new perspective.

|| The Great Gatsby: F. Scott Fitzgerald ||
Okay, I loved the book. But to be honest, this is one of the only times I will ever say this, I liked the movie better. But you should still read it!

|| Lord of the Flies: William Golding ||
Incredible. I read this book during the summer and I wish I had been in a book club or something so I could talk to someone about it, it's that kind of book. You just want to discuss it because it's so thought-provoking.

|| Grapes of Wrath: John Steinbeck ||
It's basically a must to have Steinbeck on the reading list. But fair warning, this is kind of a tough read. It's worth it though.

|| Outliers: Malcolm Gladwell ||
I definitely recommend this book. It is all about why people are the way they are because of their social circumstances and experiences.

|| Bossypants: Tina Fey ||
It's by Tina Fey, hopefully you can guess that this is hilarious. Such a funny book, 99% of the funny quotes you've heard from Tina Fey lie in the pages of this autobiography.

|| The Kite Runner: Khaled Hosseini ||
Okay, it's a sad one, but it's worth reading. Don't watch the movie, read the book. You understand the characters better. It becomes not really about the horrible circumstances in Iraq, but it's more of a coming of age story. You really feel the characters. It's wonderful. And sad. But read it.

|| Animal Farm: George Orwell ||
I really like George Orwell, I think he is very insightful. This book is really short, so if it's on a book list for a school thing, pick this one. It's short and sweet and superb.

|| My Sisters Keeper: Jodi Picoult ||
I loved how the author switched perspectives between characters. More authors should do that.

|| The Little Prince ||
My dad told me his Philosophy professor once told him this book was the best book a person could ever read to figure out about life. (I'm totally paraphrasing my dad's paraphrase.) I agree though, it's a great book.
