alumni advice.

I know I'm in no position to be giving anyone advice, but I feel like doing so and so I shall.

My advice for high school.

1. Every high school student is worried about fitting in and having friends. Make it your personal motto to be a friend to the friendless and you will find yourself with more friends than you could possibly imagine - you'd be surprised by how many people are friendless in high school.

2. Your worth does not depend on your GPA, ACT score, number of boys you've kissed, extracurricular activities or anything else high school students get caught up in. You're amazing because you're amazing. High or low, your GPA, ACT score and everything else doesn't mean anything. Don't let any of these things make you feel less amazing than you are.

3. Make friendships that can last forever. If you're Rachel Green, find your Monica Geller.

4. But with that said, realize that most of the friendships won't last into the ages. In fact, they probably won't survive your freshmen year of college. Your family on the other hand, will last into the eternities. Go to your little siblings soccer games. Let your older siblings know how much they mean to you. Don't talk smack on your parents with your friends, believe it or not, they just want what is best for you.

5. Apply for scholarships. Every essay can make a difference and every penny counts. Preach it.

6. Go to every dance that is your gender's choice. I know it's a lot of money, but the memories are priceless. (That was cheesy so sorry if you're lactose intolerant.)

7. Sluff your classes. Stay up later than you should. No one remembers the nights they got plenty of sleep. Maybe break the *little* laws once or twice. You don't want to be the grandparent with the boring stories.

8. Never speed on Locust. You will ignore this piece of advice, but when you get ticketed don't say I didn't warn you.

9. And lastly, live it up. Cherish every moment. It goes by way too fast. One day you will be gathered around your old friends, bowling and considering it a sport as old people do and you will refer to your high school memories. Make them fond memories and call them the glory days. Make every day in high school the best day of your life.
